Photographers Check This Out...Free Stuff!

The Photography industry is changing at a rapid pace and one of the greatest ways it is changing is with what could be described as a "Learn and Share" mentality! Gone are the days that you learn of an opportunity or new technique and keep it all to yourself! The photography community at large is becoming, mostly thanks to technologies such as blogs and online forums and "virtual" communities" online, much more open and friendly to sharing information! I have enjoyed tremendously this benefit in reading many blogs and learning a wealth of information from other photographers just by sitting at my desk!

This is something that I want to be a part of! As I learn things I want to also be sharing things! It's the "I want to be a river not a lake" mentality, if you will! Therefore, I hope to make semi-frequent posts about different things that I am learning about photography. There are others who are WAY further down the road than I am whom I constantly seek to be learning from; and on the flip side, there are others who are not as far along in their journey who may be able to benefit from things that I have learned! This is my hope at least!

With that being said, one of the many photographers I follow is David Jay. If you haven't heard of David Jay, you should check him out here, anyways he has a link posted about a free Audio book called Free by Chris Anderson. You can watch a great video by DJ about how the book can be beneficial in the photography industry as well as download the book and put it on your iphone/ipod! Great free resource!

Louisville Wedding Photography | Lee & Melissa

Things just keep on truckin! This past Saturday I had the opportunity to shoot Lee and Melissa's wedding at Clifton Baptist Church here in town. It was a perfect day for a wedding with weather in the low 80's, which happens to be my sweet spot! It was such a great wedding, especially because I know Lee and Melissa as well as several in the wedding party! I as actually Lee's RL (RA to most) in college, and the coolest part about it was that I remember Lee coming to me and telling me his thoughts about possibly asking melissa out! I'm glad I encouraged him! :) I've enjoyed watching their relationship grow and I was honored when they asked me to shoot their wedding! Here are a few of my favorite moments from their day!

This Is Why I Love What I Do!

I received this email yesterday from Morganne and Sam of last weekends wedding! It was just SO encouraging, and just made me so thankful that I can serve people through Photography and thankful to the Lord for allowing me the Privilege!

Jason!

They look amazing! I cannot thank you enough for you and your lovely wife being a part of our special day! All of my friends were very impressed with you two, and thought that you were fun :) We absolutely love all of the photos. We are so glad that we found you on the knot and you were so understanding of our short time frame. Again, we cannot thank you enough. I don't think anyone else could have done a better job of capturing such a special day.

So many thanks!

Elizabethtown Wedding Photography | Morganne & Sam

Wow, things have been crazy busy around here, which is good but the blog has suffered...my apologies! I have more events to post, however I wanted to start with the most recent wedding this past weekend in E-Town! I had the privilege of shooting Morganne and Sam's wedding hosted by Claudia's Tea Room, a vintage historic home/decorative tea room! It was a warm, yet very beautiful day and I can't say enough about Morganne and Sam! I met Morganne in early May at our consultation and could tell she had great style! I hadn't met Sam until Saturday due to the fact that he is serving in the military and only arrived in town a week or two before the wedding! It didn't take long, however, to realize that he was a very genuine and fun-loving guy. Their love for each other was DEFINITELY evident throughout the entire day which made shooting the wedding a breeze, and also lots of fun! Sam said a number of times that he was so glad to have have a photographer that smiled...I echoed the same sentiments to the two of them! It was a great day!

Melanie + Brad - Engaged!

Last week I had the privilege of shooting Melanie and Brad's engagement pictures at Bernheim Forest just south of Louisville! Bernheim is such a great place for engagements and was exactly what Melanie had in mind for what she wanted! We were able to grab some great shots! I'm looking forward to their wedding at My Old Kentucky Home in October!

Cole & Heather - Engaged

Last week I had the opportunity to shoot Cole & Heather's Engagement session. It started out to be quite the stormy day but the sun peaked out at the end and we were able to go have a good time! We headed over to White Hall over on Lexington and then headed over to the Presbyterian seminary to end the session...both had weddings going on BTW, which made things interesting. We were able to stay out of the way, however and still have a good time! by Both Cole & Heather are naturally comfortable and easy going people which made shooting the session quite enjoyable! We'll be heading over to Bernheim Forest this sunday evening for another shoot so stay tuned!! Enjoy

Be YOUnique!

I'm a big blog reader. I have a "bookmarks" list a mile long that I filter through pretty much daily and at the very least weekly. I do this for inspiration as well as to keep the creative juices flowing at all times!

As I was reading today, one of my many stops is a friend and fellow Photog, Todd Pellowe. He wrote a great post today about things he would like to see at weddings in 2009. He had some great ideas of things that are out of the norm, yet SO fun and unique! I LOVE this! I LOVE unique! I LOVE different!

Personally, I'm not a very traditional person. I don't like to do things because "that's how they've always been done". Maybe you like traditional, then GREAT! As long as its what YOU want. It's YOUR wedding day and one of the most important days of your life. Make it what you want it to be! Be fun, be creative, be YOU!

McMichael Family

Though I don't normally do family shoots, the McMichaels asked me a good while ago if I would shoot a few pictures of their growing family! After getting rained out 3 times, we finally made it work this past Wednesday! It turned out to be a BEAUTIFUL day and I genuinly had a great time getting to know them better! Chris and Leslie have two young boys, Daniel, and newest member of the family is Hudson!

Here's a few of my favorite images!

Things -a-changin!

Sorry for the laps in blogging lately!! Things have been pretty busy around here! You may have noticed a new look...a little blog face-lift if you will! We're gettin leaner and meaner...simplify and focus, that's the motto! Bare with me, I haven't forgotten!

Coffey/Paul Engagement - Full Post

After our session got rained out on Thursday, Aaron and Sydney met Jenny and I in the park to shoot their engagement pics. It was a beautiful day and I love shooting couples that are so excited and googly-eyed! When we asked Sydney about their story she got the biggest smile on her face that didn't go away the rest of the evening! Aaron and Sydney's families were very close growing up and they were somewhat childhood sweethearts. They went their separate ways until recently, when they were both home from school, the sparks flew! Aaron was quite the stud when planing the proposal too, including hours of planning, video's recorded for her, an elaborate decorative picnic, dancing in the moonlight etc. You can imagine how much Sydney loved telling the story! It was a great time!
